Mickey Drexler is the CEO of J.Crew. These videos not only give insight into how he runs the company but just quality advice/outlook on how to interact the consumer on several levels including consumer relations, design, and aestethics. We live in a time of instant gratification and rapidly moving trends, I often look to his interviews for insight. However, the best interview (in my opinion) is from about three years ago with Charlie Rose. I was having difficulties embedding the video, but it is about an hour long and worth the watch - MICKEY DREXLER x CHARLIE ROSE.
Frank The Butcher & DJ 7L Present: The Essential Dipset Mix
Here is a new mix courtesy of my friends DJ 7L of The Bladerunners and Frank The Butcher. Many of the tracks on this mix bring back vivid memories of the past for me. Anyone around during the Dipset reign remembers the boundaries they crossed (w/ Cam'Ron wearing pink, ha) and standards they set as a unified crew.
The reign of the Harlem Diplomats is without a doubt one of the most influential periods in modern hip-hop. The movement that officially started with family features on Camron’s ‘S.D.E.’ album turned into one of New York City’s most powerful crews. Dipset created a sound that transcended the borders of east coast rap with a style that fueled urban culture for the better half of the 2000s. Killa Cam’s unapologetic uptown crew, Jim Jones, Freaky Zeeky and Juelz Santana, evolved to be leaders in their own rights commanding offshoot rap groups while still reppin’ the eagle and still screaming Harlem. To celebrate the legacy of the Diplomats, we put together a comprehensive mix spanning years of bandana wearing and flag waving. While there is no possible way to include every significant offering of their vast catalogue, we believe we compiled some of Dipset’s best music in this 100+ minute homage.
Enjoy

Bodega x Bushmills "Since Way Back" Boston Launch
I recently came across this flick and video from a Bushmills event I attended about a month back. The event marked the launch of Bushmills "Since Way Back" campaign featuring the owners of Boston based shop Bodega with the likes of actors Elijah Wood and musicians Bon Iver, Chromeo, and Theophilus London. Pictured left to right... Legendary record collector/DJ/producer Kon, Oliver of Bodega/Fourth Wall Project, Sam & Ben of Flavorheard (aka Whiskey Barons), and I.
Look out for the BDGA guys on billboards (second pic.) throughout the city. Congrats on the success.

Kanye West & Jay-Z - Watch The Throne Tour
The Watch The Throne tour hit Boston this past week... Got a couple passes courtesy of Million $ Mano who happens to be Kanye's DJ. Amazing stages designed by my dude Virgil Abloh and Ye himself. The show itself was amazing as well. With the passes came the ability to watch The Throne (yeah, double entendre) from almost anywhere in the arena; From almost any angle/seat/view, no detail was over looked, visuals and lighting were figuratively and literally on point.
These are just a few flicks from my phone.

Kostas Seremetis – Ready…Steady…Go!
Around September, I had a chance to Kostas Seremetis' exhibition "Ready...Set...Go!" at the Fourthwall Project gallery in Boston. My favorite piece of the exhibition was the 9ft sculpture of a 5pt star made of police barricades. What capture my interest even more was the way the sculpture was displayed to interact with another piece across the room that also contained a piece of a police barricade. When 5pt star was viewed from the side, it was lined up symmetrically to the barricade on the wall across the room which you can see in the second picture.
Pics were taken with my Blackberry. You can see HD pictures of the whole show at the Fourthwall Project site.
Background on Kostas -
"A native son of Boston MA, Seremetis started his art career in local nightclubs and coffee shops in the early nineties (ex: Other Side Cafe, Axis/Avalon). Semeretis moved to NY in 1996, where he still resides, and held his first New York Solo Show in 1997 (Mary Anthony Gallery). His most recent exhibition was at the Kindergarten Group Show in Modena, Italy alongside Delta, Mode2, Os Gemeos, Tom Sachs, and Futura 2000, curated by Giorgio de Mitri. Seremetis’s work is coveted and collected worldwide, and he counts some heavyhitters as fans (and customers), such as Ian Astbury of THE CULT, who declared Kostas is “the Rauschenberg of our generation,” and Darren Aronofsky who calls Kostas “an exceptional artist.”
DJ CRAZE - Dance Alone
This is the second track off of my recent mix "TODAY'S TONIGHT"... Dance Alone by the legendary DJ CRAZE. I had the chance to chop it up with him recently when Yelawolf's (who he currently DJ's for) tour hit Boston. Easily one of the best hip-hop shows I've seen in a long time.
I'll eventually post some footage of his routines from that night...

DJ AM
My friend Gomez Warren IV aka NOIRFANCY was recently a guest on Los Angeles' DJ/Producer Them Jeans' Tall Tales podcast. Amongst the many topics covered, one that was brought up several times during the podcast was that of the influence of the late DJ AM in his (Gomez's) career as a DJ. Though I did not have the opportunity to be around AM 5 nights a week while I was starting out in my DJ career, he still had a major influence on how I came to develop my personal style as a DJ. By the first time I met him, I had seen countless videos of him on youtube but nothing compared to being in the booth and watching him work live. That night changed my life.
Videos like this show why he was a true pioneer / innovator.
/// Oh yeah... check that podcast. We need more ppl like NOIRFANCY in the world.
